Job Description

A well-established insurance defense law firm serving the Southern California legal community is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Secretary for a temporary assignment. This role requires a litigation secretary who is comfortable handling trial preparation, court filings, and attorney support without hand-holding. The firm is looking for someone who knows the work, manages deadlines well, and can step in and contribute immediately.

If you have solid insurance defense litigation experience and are comfortable supporting attorneys through active cases and trial prep, this could be a strong short-term opportunity.

Compensation: $30 - $45 per hour DOE

Your Role on the Team

  • Prepare, proofread, and electronically file legal documents in California state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and deadlines
  • Support attorneys through all phases of trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, compiling witness lists, and assembling trial binders
  • Maintain and manage attorney calendars, scheduling depositions, hearings, meetings, and trials, and tracking critical deadlines
  • Transcribe dictation and independently draft correspondence, pleadings, and discovery materials with minimal supervision
  • Create, organize, and maintain electronic case files using Worldox, iManage or comparable document management systems
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, court personnel, court reporters, and expert witnesses
  • Provide additional litigation and administrative support as needed based on case demands

Your Credentials

  • 3-5 years of litigation legal secretary experience in a law firm setting
  • Insurance defense background strongly preferred
  • Hands-on trial preparation experience required
  • Working knowledge of state and federal court filing rules, service requirements, and e-filing systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal document management systems such as iManage or Worldox strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with consistent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-moving litigation environment
  • Professional, dependable, and discreet in handling sensitive information
